Would it pass as an Adirondack Bench?! Tha's kind of where I took my inspiration. Although then added the more familiar English style of level/ moulded seat.
I probably gave her a bench worth four times what she asked for. Not a good way to do business! My friend saw it a hit exactly the same figure I had in mind. He then said I was robbed! But it was the other way around, I accepted the commission price and it was me who designed the bench!
I had a bit of an epiphinal moment the other week. I keep forgetting to tell you. I realised, whether I am using the words correctly or not, that I am an artist not a carpenter. I have to produce what is in me to produce, rather than what someone asks for or what a drawing says. I can't follow drawings in the same way I can't follow recipes. I have to play with them and push them, experiment and see where it goes.
So, it will be far better for me to produce boxes and put a price on them rather than work to order, unless the price is right, but I still feel I would end up given more than I am getting!
It was a nice feeling to think of myself as an artist. I really want to get on with boxes and put all this other stuff behind me. I feel I am exploding with stuff I want to produce.
